[General Course Guidance]
This course is designed for both international and Japanese students who are eager to learn overall monetary, banking and investment theories, as well as international economics, in a group-oriented seminar style. In my seminar, English language is used most of the time. This is a four-credit, one-year course at Sakado Campus. Senior students and/or a teaching assistant may assist your study.
[Objectives]
Students will be able to master basic concepts and theories of monetary and banking systems in English, such as roles of money, interest rates, central banks, financial systems under central banks, various financial institutions, and shadow banking. In the latter half of the year, students will be challenged to learn basic investment theories, such as valuation of stocks, bonds, investment trusts, and other financial assets. An introduction to modern portfolio theory is included.
Moreover, the students will be encouraged to speak and express their ideas in English, in class, in front of the other seminar members. Group presentations will be conducted on the financial results of virtual, simulated investment trust and/or stock portfolio performance games.
